Does your course meet these requirements?

Biology

Includes all biological science courses applied toward a baccalaureate degree in traditional science fields. This includes courses where the following subject matter is the main point of focus:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Bacteriology
  • Biophysics
  • Botany
  • Cellular Biology
  • Cellular Physiology
  • Ecology
  • Genetics
  • General Biology
  • Histology
  • Immunology
  • Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Neurobiology
  • Neuroscience
  • Parasitology
  • Pathophysiology
  • Virology
  • Zoology

If courses are taught in departments other than the Biology/Microbiology department, further review will need to be done to determine whether they fulfill the requirement. Please note: Courses that are introductory, elementary, and/or for non-science majors may count toward BCPM GPA, however, science courses intended for non-science majors will not count towards pre-requisite coursework requirements for the TMDSAS schools.

Chemistry

Includes all General Chemistry courses applied toward a Baccalaureate degree in traditional science fields. The following courses will count towards the pre-requisite if taught in the Chemistry department:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • General Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Qualitative Chemistry
  • Quantitative Chemistry

If courses are taught in a department other than Chemistry, further review will need to be done to determine whether they fulfill the requirement. Please note: Courses that are introductory, elementary, and/or for non-science majors may count toward BCPM GPA, however, science courses intended for non-science majors will not count towards pre-requisite coursework requirements for the TMDSAS schools.

Organic Chemistry

Includes all Organic Chemistry courses applied toward a Baccalaureate degree in traditional science fields. The following courses will count towards the pre-requisite if taught in the Chemistry department:

  • Organic Chemistry
  • Bio-Organic Chemistry

If courses are taught in a department other than Chemistry, further review will need to be done to determine whether they fulfill the requirement. Please note: Courses that are introductory, elementary, and/or for non-science majors may count toward BCPM GPA, however, science courses intended for non-science majors will not count towards pre-requisite coursework requirements for the TMDSAS schools.

Biochemistry

Must be a course that is applied toward a baccalaureate degree in any traditional science field. Cannot be an introductory course. The course may be taught in the Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry department. The following topics must be covered by the course in order for it to be approved:

  • Carbohydrate metabolism

  • Amino acid metabolism

  • One-carbon metabolism

  • Lipid structures and metabolism

  • Nucleic acid synthesis

  • RNA transcription
  • pH
  • Amino acid structure

  • Protein structure

  • Enzyme kinetics and metabolism

  • DNA replication

In general, an appropriate organic chemistry course/sequence should be required as a prerequisite/co-requisite for the acceptable biochemistry course. Please note: Courses that are introductory, elementary, and/or for non-science majors may count toward BCPM GPA, however, science courses intended for non-science majors will not count towards pre-requisite coursework requirements for the TMDSAS schools.

Physics

Includes all physics courses applied toward a baccalaureate degree in any traditional science field. Can be algebra- based or calculus- based Physics. If courses are taught in a department other that Physics, further review will need to be done to determine whether they fulfill the requirement.

Statistics

Most acceptable statistics courses are taught in the Statistics or Math department of your institution. More important than the department it is taught in, are the contents of the course. The following topics must be covered:

  • Inferential Statistics
  • Descriptive Statistics
  • Multivariate Methods
  • Hypothesis Testing
  • Linear Models & Regression

If courses are taught in a department other that Math or Statistics, further review may be required to determine whether they fulfill the requirement.

English

Any course that fulfills a general education English requirement of a baccalaureate degree will be accepted. Reading or writing intensive courses taught in the Humanities may also be considered.

Remedial, developmental courses, or "English as a Second Language" courses will not fulfill the requirement.

Natural & Physical Sciences

Any course taught in the departments below. These courses will only be included in the BCPM GPA for Veterinary applicants.

  • Agriculture
  • Animal & Avian Sciences

Engineering

Any course taught in the Engineering department. All engineering courses will be included on the Prescribed Coursework Report (PCR), but will not be included in the BCPM GPA. Engineering courses will be included in a separate engineering GPA. Unless an engineering course is already approved as a pre-requisite in the Course Listings, it will be coded as the section it falls under (Biology/Chemistry/Physics) and included in the BCPM GPA.

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
